It isn't easy getting on with participating in your latest game when the morally and ethically bankrupt Overseer of the game keeps disturbing you or threatening to vaporise you every 5 minutes. And how did you even get here in the first place?

Rise Of The Overseer is a sokoban/multiban puzzle game set in science fiction world of the Overseer Corporation Gaming Centre, where The Overseer helpfully guides you and your faithful RoboBuddy through a series of game challenges. 

Along the way, find ways to leave the boundaries of the game and take the opportunity to meet other friendly AI systems and members of staff. Unravel the events that led up to the start of your game and follow the fate of humanity on Galactic News as sinister events unfold across the galaxy.  

Participate in The Overseer's latest experiment by investigating any cat crates you find along the way, or participate in side games like Interplanetary Thermonuclear War.

And don't forget, it is strictly forbidden by The Overseer to go outside the boundaries of the game! But what's the worst that could happen if you do?

Full of humour, satire and parody from start to finish, Rise Of The Overseer promises hours of fun and challenging puzzles.

Current Status

The 1st playable demo version of Rise Of The Overseer is now available! 

There are still various unfinished aspects, but it is possible to play through the first 8 levels in this demo version + a short game finale that shows some future functionality from the full game.

At present, only HD aspect ratio screens work properly outside the main game rooms. If anyone has a non-HD aspect ratio screen and experiences poorly proportioned screens, let me know, as this would be opportunity to try a build that resolves this.

If anyone gets as far as the very final room before the game closes, there is occasionally an unresolved crash in the current build of the game. Otherwise I have not experienced crashes myself.

About The Game Development

The Rise Of The Overseer game was inspired by another sokoban/multiban game called XOR that I had on my Amstrad CPC in 1987. It was brutally difficult and probably took me about 25 years to complete it. The Overseer is still challenging, but not as brutal thanks to the built in undo and breakpoint system (which is a strategy in itself).

It was a game I have a fond place in my heart for, but one where there was absolutely no story or context behind, unlike Rise Of The Overseer, which takes a similar, but much more fluid gameplay and is heavily story driven. 

The game has been written using the Gamemaker game engine and a variety of other development tools for animation and dialogue structuring. I have ended up using paid for AI tools for text to speech and music to keep down my own costs as a single developer.
